Volunteer to support Clinical Therapy Programs!

Position Title: Charitable Gaming Volunteer

Duration: 2 hours per session

Session Frequency: Minimum of one session every 2 months

SSI is a pioneer of inclusion, equity, and excellence in speech therapy. We provide speech therapy to children with speech sound disorders and people of all ages who stutter. We support inclusion and equity in speech therapy by providing subsidies to families with demonstrated financial need and keeping our fees accessible. We are able to do this through the generosity of our donors.

The role

SSI is looking for volunteers to help with an exciting opportunity to raise funds for our cause. We are a charity partner in a cGaming (Charitable Gaming) initiative led by the City of Toronto in partnership with the Ontario Charitable Gaming Association. In this initiative, SSI’s volunteers cover in-person shifts at Rama Gaming House in Scarborough. For every shift covered by our volunteers, the gaming house distributes a part of its proceeds from charitable gaming activities at their location to SSI.

The funds raised support SSI’s speech and stuttering therapy programs and help keep our fees accessible to our community.

The impact a volunteer makes

  • Raise significant funds for our cause
  • Help our programs be more accessible to people with communication challenges and disabilities

Key Volunteering Activities/Responsibilities

The primary activity a volunteer engages in is attending 2-hour sessions at Rama Gaming House, Scarborough. This venue is a gaming facility, where customers play games on slot machines. As a volunteer, you will represent our charity at the sessions you attend. Volunteers can sign up for sessions as per the session schedule and the volunteer’s availability. Volunteers must attend at least 1 session every 2 months, and are encouraged to attend more.

Key responsibilities at these sessions include:

  • Represent our charity at the session (familiarizing yourself with our mission and work)
  • Greeting and welcoming patrons at the location
  • Handing out promos/flyers
  • If there is a bingo session you may be required to call back bingos and ball tickets
  • Providing coffee to customers
  • Wiping down terminals and tables (no chemicals involved)
  • Pushing back chairs
  • Completing other similar, simple tasks that may be required

Coffee and water will be available at no cost for volunteers. Training will be provided for the above tasks and any additional, similar tasks that may come up in the future.
