Message from Dr. Robert Kroll:
I am very pleased to announce that Margit Pukonen has accepted the position as the Interim Executive Director The Speech & Stuttering Institute. Margit has worked at SSI since it opened its doors in the 1980’s. She has been a front line clinician, managed the clinical programs and has overseen the development and evaluation of new treatment and professional training programs for children with motor speech disorders. She has participated in research studies and coauthored publications on the subject. Under Margit’s professional leadership we look forward to continuing to offer our unique brand of excellence in care, education, research, and adaptability to help serve our clients best!

I am also very excited to announce that I will be assuming the chairmanship of the Board of Directors of The Speech and Stuttering Institute. The role of the Board of Directors is to oversee and support all aspects of the management of the organization pertaining to governance, operations and budgeting. After 11 years of dedicated service, Paul L’Heureux is stepping down as Chair of our Board of Directors; we are grateful to Paul for his thoughtful leadership. I look forward to taking over from Paul and continuing to serve The Speech & Stuttering Institute in this capacity.

I would like to take this opportunity to say that working at The Speech & Stuttering Institute for the past 20 years has been a wonderful experience, and it has been a privilege serving our community, advocating for those with speech challenges, and transforming the lives of so many of our clients, for which I am deeply grateful. Going forward, I will continue to contribute to our Ministry sponsored pathway projects dealing with fluency and motor speech disorders as well as maintaining my teaching relationship with the University of Toronto.

The next few years will remain very challenging for all of us at the SSI with the changing landscape of healthcare. I am confident that we shall be successful in addressing and dealing with every one of the challenges or hurdles that come our way, as we have always done in the past. I look forward to your continued support as Margit and I plan and direct the future of this wonderful organization.
